job’s satisfaction in disappointment

Job is a great example for us in learning to be content, especially in circumstances that are not as we would have it. Even for a blameless man job 1:8 , contentment is not a natural response to ongoing suffering. Job had deep, terrible disappointment in his life job 30:26  that left him in much despair and self-pity much like Jeremiah lamentations 3:16-20 . So, how did God teach Job to be content and respond rightly to God’s good, perfect, pleasing will romans 12:2  when it was anything but that to a natural mind? What can we learn from Job’s response and God’s dealing with him?

We should be mindful of our responses job 36:21  and guard our heart from running amok proverbs 4:23  ii corinthians 10:5  trying to soothe our own desires in our disappointments. We should be seeking to learn the lesson from hardship that imparts God’s holiness and peace hebrews 12:7, 10-11  isaiah 26:9 . God is teaching us to truly love job 36:15-16  and choose to embrace our role within His will as His servants job 34:31-33  romans 12:1-2 .

While such discipline is unpleasant hebrews 12:10-11 , it is in the very hope, that sure anticipation of what that discipline results in proverbs 19:18  james 1:2-4  that develops contentment within the midst of affliction and disappointment job 13:15-16 . Like Job, it is that hope-filled perseverance that we should seek to develop in our suffering james 5:10-11  so that our attitude will become like Christ’s romans 12:12  i peter 4:1-2  hebrews 12:2 , and through that may come to know Him and understand our Lord’s patience and goodness towards us job 42:5-6  philippians 3:10  psalm 68:19  hebrews 2:10-11  i peter 2:21, 24  isaiah 53:4-5

...He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Both the One Who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

It is this hope of truly having a personal relationship with our wondrous Lord by which we persevere job 19:25-27  philippians 3:12-14 . It is that perSEVEREnce in your disappointments that produces experiential hope romans 5:3-5  which doesn’t disappoint, but rather produces the ability to experience life based on spiritual principles romans 7:6  rather than being bound by mere circumstances, be they pleasant or unpleasant philippians 4:11-13 . Once hardships train our character we now find that hope in the Lord is far more enjoyable than the simple pleasantness of a circumstance psalm 4:6-7  ecclesiastes 5:12 .

Remember, it is not the circumstance that makes life enjoyable but one’s relationship with God ecclesiastes 2:25 . Even in the burden of longing for death, there is a joy in the persevering to obey because that obedience produces an experiential, confident anticipation of being received by God job 6:8-10  philippians 1:20-24  i john 2:3, 24-25, 28, 3:21  ii peter 1:10-11 .

So, Biblical hope is not merely a construct of delusional comfort derived by wishful thinking, but a mindset, which once trained in, properly interprets and responds to EVERYTHING’S purpose and outcome job 17:9  ii peter 1:3-8  romans 8:28-29 , resulting in a otherworldly experience of this life job 42:3, 26:14  i timothy 4:8  i corinthians 2:12  john 17:16-17  colossians 3:1-4  proverbs 11:27  romans 8:24  lamentations 3:16-39  ii corinthians 12:9-10 .
