Spiritual Warfare, part 3

Section 1

We are not really supposed to go out and take the fight to Satan. Jesus destroys the work of Satan i john 3:8 , that battle is His ii chronicles 20:17 . We are to stand firm in what we have already been given ephesians 6:11  philippians 3:16  i john 2:24-26  and continue to be built up in our faith jude 20  i peter 5:9 . So, our main goal in spiritual warfare is to submit to God and resist the Devil’s temptations to part ways with God james 4:7 . Beware the temptation to relate your life more to Satan’s influence than God’s leviticus 19:31  james 4:1-10 . We should be seeking God in everything: our trials lamentations 3:25-28  and our triumphs proverbs 27:21 ; rather than blaming/crediting the Devil as being some sort of god over our life; leave him to God jude 1:9 . Satan does not mind you blaming him if that gets you thinking more of him and less of God. Our relationship is with the Lord, not with the enemy. View everything in your life from the hand of the Lord; relate to Him through it all lamentations 3:38  job 1:21, 2:10  isaiah 45:7  deuteronomy 32:36-39 . For whether directly or through various tools proverbs 16:4  ii samuel 7:14  romans 8:28-29 , God is dealing with you specifically just as your heart needs every day hebrews 12:5-13  i kings 8:37-40, 58-60 . Seek God in everything lest you forget God because of everything.

i john 3:8 esv

Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

my notes:

ii chronicles 20:17 esv

You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you."

X

ephesians 6:11 esv

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

X

philippians 3:16 nlt

But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

X

i john 2:24-26 esv

Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He made to us—eternal life. I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.

X

jude 20 csb

But you, dear friends, as you build yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

X

i peter 5:9 niv84

Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

my notes:

X

james 4:7 esv

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

X

leviticus 19:31 esv

"Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God.

X

james 4:1-10 esv

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, "He yearns jealously over the spirit that He has made to dwell in us"?

But He gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.

Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.

my notes:

X

lamentations 3:25-28 niv84

The LORD is good to those whose hope in Him, to the one who seeks Him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young. Let him sit alone in silence, for the LORD has laid it on him.

X

proverbs 27:21 nlt

Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised.

X

jude 1:9 esv

But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you."

X

lamentations 3:38 esv

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come?

X

job 1:21, 2:10 csb

Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will leave this life. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

"You speak as a foolish woman speaks," he told her. "Should we accept only good from God and not adversity?" Throughout all this Job did not sin in what he said.

my notes:

X

isaiah 45:7 esv

I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, Who does all these things.

X

deuteronomy 32:36-39 esv

For the LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants, when He sees that their power is gone and there is none remaining, bond or free. Then He will say, ‘Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge, who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you; let them be your protection!

"‘See now that I, even I, am He, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.

X

proverbs 16:4 esv

The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.

X

ii samuel 7:14 esv

I will be to him a father, and he shall be to Me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men...

my notes:

X

romans 8:28-29 esv

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, in order that He might be the firstborn among many brothers

X

hebrews 12:5-13 csb

And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly or lose heart when you are reproved by Him, for the Lord disciplines the one He loves and punishes every son He receives.

Endure suffering as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline — which all receive — then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

Furthermore, we had human fathers discipline us, and we respected them. Shouldn’t we submit even more to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but He does it for our benefit, so that we can share His holiness.

No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Therefore, strengthen your tired hands and weakened knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed instead.

my notes:

X

i kings 8:37-40, 58-60 niv84

When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come, and when a prayer or plea is made by any of your people Israel--each one aware of the afflictions of his own heart, and spreading out his hands toward this temple-- then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with each man according to all he does, since You know his heart (for You alone know the hearts of all men), so that they will fear You all the time they live in the land you gave our fathers.

May He turn our hearts to Him, to walk in all His ways and to keep the commands, decrees and regulations He gave our fathers. And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, that He may uphold the cause of His servant and the cause of His people Israel according to each day’s need, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God and that there is no other.

Section 2

There are so many "mysterious" things that happen and are being reported to have happened. There are conspiracies isaiah 8:12-13 , there are spiritually dark happenings exodus 7:11-12 , strange creatures revelation 9:7-11 , unexplainable events daniel 5:5-8 , alien activity jeremiah 10:2-3  exodus 20:4 , AI fear and worship revelation 13:14-15 , omens isaiah 44:24-26 , bizarre human behavior daniel 4:33  i samuel 19:24 , demonic worship psalm 106:35-43 , and there are seemingly attainable knowledge of the unknown realm isaiah 8:19-22  which all, whether a total deception or a distortion of genuine spiritual happenings i samuel 28:11-15 …all adds up to a satanic "knowledge" revelation 2:24  that is forbidden deuteronomy 18:14  for its useless i samuel 12:21 , misleading and distracting nature isaiah 47:8-15 . Satan does not add or help. All his power is in worthless destruction not in saving hebrews 2:14  ephesians 2:1-3 .

What we need to know is Christ and Him crucified i corinthians 2:2 . All else is actually a lesser matter, a mystery that has already been made obsolete by the greater solution colossians 2:15 . When we involve ourselves with the likes of rituals, omens, ghosts, familiar spirits, fortune-telling, speculations, etc. we are giving up our greater inheritance of living water for a bowl of pitiful porridge deuteronomy 18:9-12  hebrews 12:16-17  colossians 2:8  jeremiah 2:13-17 .

It is not unlike a war of absolute attrition where a less advanced enemy goads the more powerful force away from using their nuclear armament to using pistols, swords, sticks and stones. We literally have the Almighty fighting for us romans 8:31  matthew 16:18 , and when we pursue other "knowledge" or means we ourselves literally are complicating the simple and weakening our absolute and unassailable position i john 5:18 . Like Balaam schemed from his impotency to curse Israel to tempting Israelites to separate themselves from the Lord numbers 23:23, 31:16 . Christ is the nuclear weapon of spiritual warfare and any who are in a relationship with Him cannot lose unless they literally are drawn away and enticed to fight on lower levels i john 5:18, 21  by their own wicked desires/decisions james 1:13-15  i peter 5:8  jude 8-10 .

X

isaiah 8:12-13 csb

Do not call everything a conspiracy that these people say is a conspiracy. Do not fear what they fear; do not be terrified. You are to regard only the LORD of Armies as holy. Only He should be feared; only He should be held in awe.

X

exodus 7:11-12 niv

Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

X

revelation 9:7-11 niv

The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months. They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).

my notes:

X

daniel 5:5-8 niv

Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking. The king summoned the enchanters, astrologers and diviners. Then he said to these wise men of Babylon, "Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom." Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant.

X

jeremiah 10:2-3 niv

This is what the LORD says: "Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them. For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.

X

exodus 20:4 esv

"You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.

"This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, Who formed you in the womb: I am the LORD, the Maker of all things, Who stretches out the heavens, Who spreads out the earth by myself, Who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners, Who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense, Who carries out the words of His servants and fulfills the predictions of His messengers, Who says of Jerusalem, ‘It shall be inhabited,’ of the towns of Judah, ‘They shall be rebuilt,’ and of their ruins, ‘I will restore them,’

X

daniel 4:33 niv

Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.

He stripped off his garments, and he too prophesied in Samuel’s presence. He lay naked all that day and all that night. This is why people say, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"

but they mixed with the nations and learned to do as they did. They served their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood. Thus they became unclean by their acts, and played the whore in their deeds. Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against His people, and He abhorred His heritage; He gave them into the hand of the nations, so that those who hated them ruled over them. Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their power. Many times He delivered them, but they were rebellious in their purposes and were brought low through their iniquity.

X

isaiah 8:19-22 niv

When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this Word, they have no light of dawn. Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

my notes:

i samuel 28:11-15 niv

Then the woman asked, "Whom shall I bring up for you?"

"Bring up Samuel," he said.

When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out at the top of her voice and said to Saul, "Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!"

The king said to her, "Don’t be afraid. What do you see?" The woman said, "I see a ghostly figure coming up out of the earth." "What does he look like?" he asked.

"An old man wearing a robe is coming up," she said.

Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?"

"I am in great distress," Saul said. "The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do."

Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.’ Both of these will overtake you in a moment, on a single day: loss of children and widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and all your potent spells.

You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me.’ Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.

"Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. These are not coals for warmth; this is not a fire to sit by. That is all they are to you— these you have dealt with and labored with since childhood. All of them go on in their error; there is not one that can save you.

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

X

deuteronomy 18:9-12 niv

When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD; because of these same detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you.

my notes:

X

hebrews 12:16-17 niv

See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.

X

colossians 2:8 esv

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

X

jeremiah 2:13-17 niv

My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken Me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth? Why then has he become plunder? Lions have roared; they have growled at him. They have laid waste his land; his towns are burned and deserted. Also, the men of Memphis and Tahpanhes have cracked your skull. Have you not brought this on yourselves by forsaking the LORD your God when He led you in the way?

Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

In the same way, these people—who claim authority from their dreams—live immoral lives, defy authority, and scoff at supernatural beings. But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, "The Lord rebuke you!" (This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body.) But these people scoff at things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction.

At one moment I might announce concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will uproot, tear down, and destroy it. However, if that nation about which I have made the announcement turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the disaster I had planned to do to it.

At another time I might announce concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it. However, if it does what is evil in My sight by not listening to Me, I will relent concerning the good I had said I would do to it.

So now, say to the men of Judah and to the residents of Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says: Look, I am about to bring harm to you and make plans against you. Turn now, each from your evil way, and correct your ways and your deeds.’

My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ the righteous One. He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.

Since then we have a great high priest Who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One Who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

i john 1:7-9 esv

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
