How We Began

a brief history...

June 13th, Life Church is founded by Pastor Ed Bulkley and a small group of dedicated believers during a meeting at the Bronco Inn in Northglenn.

June 17th, the very first worship service of Life Church takes place at the Northglenn Recreation Center.

Later that summer, Life Church moves to the Northglenn Twin theater at the old Northglenn Mall. Adults worshiped in one auditorium while children had their own “Caraway Street” kids’ service in the other auditorium. Each week involved extensive setup, tear-down, and cleanup of dirty theaters.

Life Church purchases approximately 40 acres of property at 115th & Sheridan Blvd. The property included a partially constructed concrete dormitory building for a college. The purchase was made possible when faithful church members put up their own property for collateral. The property would remain unfinished for nearly 11 years.

Unable to build on its newly-acquired property, Life Church relocates to Northglenn High School for Sunday worship. The school offered added benefits including additional space for Sunday School classes, nursery and storage.

While still meeting at Northglenn High School, construction finally begins on the church property. The simple steel building, now known as the Timothy Center, would serve as the LIFE’s first very own worship center.

In the spring, with preliminary engineering completed, teams of volunteers from the church, balanced by a few skilled workers, devote their weeknights and Saturdays to help complete the construction.

December 5th, 1993 sees Life Church’s very first worship service in its new home. At last, Life Church had a home of its own.

Now established in its new home, Life Church launches several new ministries, including LIFE Christian Academy, our school that serves preschool through 12th grade.

The Timothy Foyer and Atrium are completed. The original concrete buildings, however, remain unfinished.

The original concrete buildings are finally completed, providing ample room for Sunday School classes and nurseries.

Planning begins for construction of a dedicated Worship Center. The new facility would allow seating for up to 2000 people and include a cafe and a bookstore, among other things.

With a long construction project nearly complete, the new Worship Center is nearly ready. But an unexpected water tap fee of $139,000 threatens to derail the entire project.

November 30th, at the end of a worship service, a special offering is taken in an attempt to meet the $139,000 expense. The offering came in at more than $174,000, clearing the way to open the new Worship Center. The day was dubbed “Miracle Sunday.”

December 8th, the new Worship Center hosts its first worship service, and the Timothy Center is re-purposed into a youth and childrens’ ministry facility.

Struggling through and overcoming difficult economic times, Life Church continues to minister in new ways, including hosting concerts, adding new outreach ministries, and producing an original movie called “Jericho,” filmed with children.

Pastor Dan Bulkley becomes the senior pastor of Life Church. As we move forward into a new era of ministry, Life Church holds firm to its commitment to God’s Word and to serving our community.
