chosen for nobility?

section 1

Some might wonder if they are really designated for a noble life. Others will ask the question, "Why me?" The noble life can seem all together overwhelming and unattainable, often at the same time. Then when you group this thought of being chosen with salvation, security, predestination, foreknowledge, etc., it can become a fearful barrier that causes us to avoid securing the calling of this noble life ii peter 1:10 , as if we were to try, we might find out something we do not want to know job 9:27-29 : am I an object of mercy or an object of wrath romans 9:22-23 ? It feels safer not to know than to know, but this is not so hosea 4:6 . Our Lord’s choosing of His people does not negate His calling isaiah 41:8-10  romans 11:29 ; rather His calling establishes and magnifies His choice to be gracious to His people i peter 2:9-10  ii timothy 1:9-10  romans 9:25 . He does not invite deceptively or uselessly isaiah 45:19 , but he invites mercifully romans 9:15-16  when He could have just condemned and destroyed us or never made us or simply done nothing at all job 34:10, 12, 14-15  romans 9:18 .

Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will change my expression, and smile,’ I still dread all my sufferings, for I know you will not hold me innocent. Since I am already found guilty, why should I struggle in vain?

X

romans 9:22-23 niv

What if God, although choosing to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the objects of His wrath—prepared for destruction? What if He did this to make the riches of His glory known to the objects of His mercy, whom He prepared in advance for glory—

"But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend, I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are My servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him Who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

X

ii timothy 1:9-10 niv

He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, Who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.

I publicly proclaim bold promises. I do not whisper obscurities in some dark corner. I would not have told the people of Israel to seek Me if I could not be found. I, the LORD, speak only what is true and declare only what is right.

X

romans 9:15-16 niv

For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

job 34:10, 12, 14-15 niv

"So listen to me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God to do evil, from the Almighty to do wrong.

It is unthinkable that God would do wrong, that the Almighty would pervert justice.

If it were His intention and He withdrew His Spirit and breath, all humanity would perish together and mankind would return to the dust.

jeremiah 18:1-12 niv

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: "Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you My message." So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.

Then the word of the LORD came to me. He said, "Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand, Israel.

If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned.

And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, and if it does evil in My sight and does not obey Me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.

"Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, ‘This is what the LORD says: Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions.’ But they will reply, ‘It’s no use. We will continue with our own plans; we will all follow the stubbornness of our evil hearts.’ "

When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come, and when a prayer or plea is made by anyone among your people Israel—being aware of the afflictions of their own hearts, and spreading out their hands toward this temple—then hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since You know their hearts (for You alone know every human heart), so that they will fear You all the time they live in the land you gave our ancestors.

May He turn our hearts to Him, to walk in obedience to Him and keep the commands, decrees and laws He gave our ancestors. And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, that He may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God and that there is no other.

X

matthew 22:11-13 niv

But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. romans 12:1 nkjv

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

section 3

How do you know if you are chosen? How does one know if you really have received a call to a noble life? Maybe it would be better to understand that the Lord has already chosen to call to us. After that the question remains whether we have chosen to respond in a way that is in harmony with the Lord? Is our response relating to His calling? Are we living up to the calling we have already received ephesians 4:1 ? Abraham was chosen by God to become the father of faith genesis 18:19 , and so Abraham walked in that faith and became the father to all who have faith in God romans 4:16-17 . King Saul was chosen by God for a mission, but Saul rejected his calling and thus suffered rejection i samuel 15:17-18, 22-23 . Esther wasn’t sure she was God’s chosen instrument, but she had opportunity to do the right thing…God would not have been hindered by her disobedience, but what would have her life come to if she did not simply obey the good she knew to do esther 4:14  james 4:17 ? Paul was a chosen instrument of the Lord’s acts 9:15 , but Paul also was finally obedient to this calling, even if only after fighting against it acts 26:14-19 .

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

X

genesis 18:19 niv

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.

X

i samuel 15:17-18, 22-23 niv

Samuel said, "Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel. And He sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’

But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the Word of the LORD, He has rejected you as king."

X

esther 4:14 niv

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

‘I am Jesus, Whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of Me. I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’

"So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.

Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."

Restore the joy of Your salvation to me, and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit. Then I will teach the rebellious Your ways, and sinners will return to You.

The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.

In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. For this was how the promise was stated: "At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son."

Not only that, but Rebekah’s children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac. Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: not by works but by Him Who calls—she was told, "The older will serve the younger." So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Enter through the narrow gate. But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ " (that is, to bring Christ down) "or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’ " (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? "The Word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
