dealing with doubt

section 1

All believers have doubts in faith; if it were not so we would be perfect already in faith i thessalonians 3:10 . There are various practical causes for doubt in our lives, but Biblically speaking our doubts are not about whether we have faith or not, but rather what we have faith in ii corinthians 5:7 . For we all have to live by faith and not merely by what we can sense. No one is complete in knowledge but God job 37:16 , and as such, we all are subject to faith because we cannot sense, experience or understand everything hebrews 11:1-3 .

Everyone has some kind of faith by necessity of our nature, and everyone knows there is God romans 1:18-21 as God has made us to know there is the unsensed ecclesiastes 3:11 ; even demons know of God james 2:19 . Yet in our own thinking we limp between believing God or believing our own understanding jeremiah 23:26 proverbs 3:5-6 . genesis 15:1-6

1 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: "Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." 2 But Abram said, "O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3 And Abram said, "Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir." 4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: "This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir." 5 And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." 6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

It is helpful to understand that there is a difference in Scripture between doubts and disbelief. Though they these terms can be interchanged, for our purposes, we will distinguish between the quite different connotations. Both doubt and disbelief come from a wicked, unstable, ignorant heart, but God deals with doubt jude 22 differently than disbelief ii thessalonians 2:10-12 . A doubter He treats as one to be strengthened romans 15:1-3 , brought along romans 1:11-12 , to be patient with isaiah 42:3 and ministered to acts 20:35 i thessalonians 5:14 isaiah 40:11 . i john 5:10-13

10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.

psalm 36:1-4

1 Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes.

2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.

3 The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good.

4 He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil.
